TAIONA, A POSSIBLE FUTURE

NOTE: This story is based on the Archie Sonic comics, and is not connected with my “Sonic Heroes” fan fiction series. This story shows a possible future for Tails and Fiona.


AN ISLAND ON PLANET MOBIUS
Scourge the Hedgehog was relaxing under a tree, and Fiona Fox stood beside him with her arms crossed.
FIONA: ‘I don’t understand, Scourge. Why are we here?’
SCOURGE: ‘Chill out, babe. Sonic and his friends will arrive. And we will give them a warm welcome.’
Fiona nodded. Suddenly they heard an explosion from a distance.
SCOURGE: ‘What was that?’
FIONA: ‘I’ll find out.’
She walked in the direction of the sound, and to her shock, she saw an active volcano.
FIONA: ‘Scourge, we are near an active volcano!’
SCOURGE: ‘A volcano?’
Lava started flowing out of the crater.
SCOURGE: (conjuring up his portal ring) ‘I don’t wanna be barbecued. I am so out of here.’
FIONA: (spotting Scourge) ‘Wait for me!’
Scourge escaped through the ring, and it closed before Fiona could get to it.
FIONA: ‘Scourge! Come back! You can’t just leave me here!’
She turned to see the lava gushing out, heading her way. She was so terrified, fearing the worse. But luck was on her side, as Tails swooped down from high in the sky.
TAILS: (reaching out) ‘Fiona! Grab my hands!’
Fiona had no choice but to trust Tails. She grabbed onto him, and he lifted her up, just before the lava hit. Tails flew across the open sky, carrying Fiona to a safe place. Tails was crying, because he couldn’t bear to lose the girl he loved to the volcano. And Fiona was crying because of her near death experience. She was also puzzled, wondering why Tails was rescuing her. She was unaware that he still loved her, even after she slapped him. Very soon they reached land, and Tails placed Fiona on the ground, then he landed in front of her.
TAILS: ‘Are you okay, Fiona?’
FIONA: ‘T-Tails, you saved my life. But why?’
TAILS: ‘I still love you.’
FIONA: ‘But I don’t love you. I love Scourge.’
TAILS: ‘Listen to yourself. That hedgehog just left you to die. He doesn’t care about you! And I don’t think you’re the only girl he likes. I once caught him with Bunnie.’
FIONA: (surprised) ‘What?’
TAILS: ‘It’s true. It happened when he pretended to be Sonic. He also hit on Amy, and Rouge.’
FIONA: ‘Why should I believe you?’
TAILS: (starting to cry) ‘Because I love you. I know you had a horrible past, and I am really sorry it happened. If I could, I would go back in time to rescue you from Robotnik, before everything went wrong. You would have grown up with us at Knothole. And we might have had a better chance at being together. Don’t you see? I love you, Fiona. I care for you, a lot. Scourge just kept you around because you chose to be bad. He doesn’t care for you as much as I do.’
Fiona felt the urge to slap Tails again, but she was also convinced that he was telling her the truth. Before she did anything, she asked an important question.
FIONA: ‘You really love me Tails? Even after the Auto-Automation tried to kill you, and even after what I did to you?’
TAILS: ‘Yes. With all my heart. I would go through a thousand nights, and face a million demons for you.’
Fiona started to shed tears.
FIONA: ‘I-I believe you. Scourge never said he loved me like that. (Holding out her arms) Come here, Tails.’
At first, Tails hesitated, fearing it was another trick. But he saw the sincerity in Fiona’s eyes. He rushed into Fiona’s arms, and she hugged him. Suddenly the portal ring materialised near them, and Scourge came through.
SCOURGE: (to Tails) ‘Hey, get your hands off my girl!’
Fiona broke the hug, and walked up to Scourge.
FIONA: ‘What do you mean I’m your girl? Is that what you said to Bunnie, or Amy, and Rouge?’
SCOURGE: ‘Whatever that kid said to you, it was all lies. He so desperately wants you back on the losing side.’
TAILS: (to Fiona) ‘Don’t listen to him!’
FIONA: ‘Hush, Tails! Scourge, let’s go!’
Tails felt his heart was breaking again, convinced that Fiona was messing with his feelings. Scourge and Fiona walked towards the ring.
FIONA: ‘After you, Scourge.’
SCOURGE: ‘Thank you.’
He walked up to the ring, and was about to step through it. Then all of a sudden, Fiona kicked him in the back, and sent him through the ring.
FIONA: (shouting into the ring) ‘That was for leaving me to die! You jerk!’
The portal ring closed, and Fiona rushed up to Tails.
FIONA: ‘Are you okay, Tails? Sorry if I hurt you again. It was the only way I could get that two-timing hedgehog to leave. You showed me that you really loved me. And all Scourge showed me was that it’s cool to be bad. My past with Bean and Bark were also the reason why I made that decision. Now I too wish that my life had turned out better, if I was rescued a long time ago.’
TAILS: ‘It’s not too late, Fiona. If you try harder, you can still change.’
FIONA: ‘For you Tails, I will do it. I’ll never leave you again, because you’ve shown me what true love is really like.’
Tails and Fiona hugged each other once again.
FIONA: (crying) ‘I am so very sorry for what I did to you, Tails.’
TAILS: ‘I’m glad you are back, Fiona.’
They watched the sunset together.
